Statement of Need
Internal Auditing Program in needed because it enhances auditing knowledge, skills and other competences of internal auditors. The above is needed for providing a second look at the activities of an organization from both operational and financial perspective. Internal auditors provide valuable assistance in advising management on how to carry out duties in accordance with the laid down organizational policies, rules and financial regulations. In providing service to management, they review the application of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This program aims at improving knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes of practicing internal auditors thereby enabling them to effectively and efficiently carry out their internal audit functions.

Objectives of the Programme
This intervention aims at enabling Internal Audit Staff perform better. By the end of the learning event, they will be able to correctly:

  • Use the step-process of problem recognition, evidence collection and evidence evaluation, required for carrying out audit activities
  • Use the Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) to review the extent of application of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Evaluate the Internal Control System (ICS) and the Accounting Environment in order to determine the Strengths, Weaknesses, opportunities and Threats inherent in the ICS, and
  • Recommend intervention for Management and/or Board action

Subject Areas shall include:
  • Nature, objectives and role of internal auditing
  • The Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the International Financial Auditing Standards (IFAS)
  • Internal auditors’ Code of Ethics
  • Internal Control Systems and
  • The audit of cash and cash transactions, revenues and receivables, and fixed assets


Target Participants
The programme is relevant to auditing staff both internal and external, academic staff teaching auditing, and managers of organizations who are more often than not the beneficiaries of internal audit investigations.
